November, 2024: Sports in general and especially cricket has long been a sport that brings communities together, not only for the thrill of competition but for the joy too. On 10th Nov 2024, BCPA members assembled together at DDC Gardens, Bathinda and had a friendly cricket match. The members were divided into 2 teams, BCPA Hunters led by Mr. Harpinder and BCPA Warriors led by Mr Sukhwinder. All the members were so excited that their presence showcased just how this beloved sport can unite humans in the spirit of fun and sportsmanship.
While the match was played in good humour, it was evident that both teams were eager to show off their skills. Early on, Mr Hitender (Sherry) and Mr Manish from BCPA Hunters had a great partnership and scored 96 no and 92 runs setting the tone for the match. Not far behind, Mr Dinesh from BCPA Warriors with his tight bowling snaped 3 wickets and restricted BCPA Hunters to a score of 275 which at one time was looking to be near 350 plus. Though BCPA Warriors lost openers very soon but then a partnership between Mr Pankaj and Mr Sukhwinder blossomed which took BCPA Warriors to a very respectable score of 218. The ebb and flow of the match kept everyone engaged, and at the end of the day, it was the sport that everyone celebrated.
Though the game was competitive, it was clear that the focus wasn’t on winning at all costs, but on the joy of playing the sport together. Both teams, made up of players ranging from seasoned veterans to enthusiastic newcomers, shared laughs and high-fives throughout the day.
Some of the players who didn’t take active part in the match cheered from the sidelines, offering words of encouragement and sharing in the excitement of every boundary, wicket, and well-timed run.
“The real winner today is the spirit of friendship,” said Mr Harpinder captain from BCPA Hunters. “We’re not just here to play cricket, we’re here to make memories and strengthen the bond we share with one another. It’s all about enjoying the moment.”
“The real joy comes from being on the field with friends, sharing those moments where everyone is laughing and playing together,” said Mr Sukhwinder leading BCPA Warriors.
A small award ceremony was held in which Mr. Hitender (Sherry) from BCPA Hunters got the memento for scoring highest runs, Mr. Dinesh from BCPA Warriors for highest wicket taker and Mr. Sukhwinder for best all-round performance.
Refreshments were served in the innings break and brunch after the completion of the match. All the players exchanged handshakes, congratulated each other and planned to meet again for future games. The result of the match may have been secondary, but the day’s events made it clear that sports is the best medium to have fun and connect with each other in today’s busy world. It’s moments like these that remind us why sports are such a vital part of community life. While the competition can be fierce at times, it’s the relationships forged and the enjoyment of the game that truly matter.
